Building in Barcelona Part 1

Article Abstract:

The redevelopment of the city of Barcelona, Spain, has been underway for some time, and was not only connected with the fact that it hosted the Olympic Games in 1992. The key influence in recent years on property development work in the city has been the 'Barcelona School,' headed by Oriol Bohigas, which has looked to link the geometric, functional forms of the Modern Movement with long-establish Catalan construction methods. Barcelona has been reestablished as a pedestrian city with interconnecting routes between buildings and urban areas.

Land of opportunities

Article Abstract:

The construction industry in Spain is showing strong signs of recovery in 1995 following a period of recession, with activity particularly encouraging in such sectors as housing, out-of-centre retail, public, refurbishment and civil engineering. The office building sector remains weak. Local structure plans control all development projects. The level of opportunities for British building designers is growing in Spain as the country seeks to become more competitive and modern. Architectural practice in Spain is examined.
