Banks lead as well as follow

Article Abstract:

Leading members of Spain's banking community are expanding their operations in Asia. These banks can provide information regarding local business conditions to Spanish companies interested in investing in Asia. Some of the Spanish banks that have expressed interest in expanding their Asian operations include the Banco Santander, Banco Central Hispanoamericano, Banco Exterior, Banco Espanol de Credito and Banco Bilbao Vizcaya.

Spain's banking institutions are backing and financing investments in Asia, as well as investments of Asian conglomerates in Spain. Spain and Asia were strengthened in Sept. 1996, when Spain's stock commission and Hong Kong's securities and futures commission signed an agreement to protect investors in both markets.
