China's charm pays off

China has won Papua New Guinea (PNG) that will see China build and operate its first overseas mine, a 650 million dollar nickel project. With this, Beijing wins access to PNG's rich mineral, timber, fish and oil-and-gas reserves and gains a firm friend in its diplomatic fight with Taipei.
