Colombia seeks UH-60 & AH-1
Article Abstract:
The Colombian government urges the US to provide more helicopters to counter "narco-terrorists." In March 1998, the US Congress promised to speed up the delivery of three Sikorsky UH-60L Black Hawk helicopters to the Colombian National Police despite the exclusion of the purchase in the State Department FY 1998 budget request. The purchase will instead be funded through a special drugs-fighting budget. The helicopters are needed by Colombia to pursue anti-drug operations at the 3,660 m altitude, where much of the opium poppy cultivation is now taking place.

RAN considering more Sea Kings
Article Abstract:
The Royal Australian Navy (RAN) may acquire more Westland Sea King helicopters from surplus UK stocks to meet a demand for utility and fleet support operations. The RAN has seven Sea King Mk 50A at present. However, it needs two more aircraft to allow for a complement of up to four aboard each of the two new amphibious ships and one on HMAS Tobruk. The Royal Navy already had about five surplus Sea Kings in storage at the start of the year, with at least Mk XV713, believed to have been kept against the requirement.
