The UK savoury snacks market is dominated by crisps, with a 48.8% value share in 1997. Total crisp sales amounted to 769 million pounds sterling during the year, up 8% from 1993, with plain/ready salted being the most important flavour, having a 15% share of the sector. Walkers Snack Foods leads the UK crisps market with its Walkers brand having a 57% share of 1997 value sales. Crisps sales are forecast to fall by 3.4% between 1997 and 2002 when they will be worth 743 million pounds sterling. The total savoury snacks market in the UK amounted to 1.58 billion pounds sterling in 1997.
