DENMARK: DANAPAK TO INVEST DKR 340MN

The Danish packaging producer Danapak, owned by the major dairy company MD Foods, will invest DKr 340mn (USD 48.5mn) in the next three years. The goal is to increase turnover by DKr 300mn through organic growth, and to reach a DKr 1.4bn turnover in four years' time. Danapak aims at becoming the leading supplier of food packaging in the Nordic countries, and will target the cardboard packaging, plastic packaging and flexible packaging markets. The strategy includes expansion in co-operation with brand producers such as MD Foods, Carlsberg, Unilever, Nestle, Hatting, Arla and Dragsbaek.

Danapak, the packaging company controlled by the Swedish-Danish food giant Arla Foods, has entered into a strategic alliance with Westergaard & Philipson, the family-owned packaging producer. Under the alliance the two companies will be able to offer a complete range of products to practically the entire market for cardboard boxes. The two companies will co-operate at the initial stage but the co-operation could result in Danapak taking over Greve operations that specialises in packaging for the pharmaceutical and the confectionery market.

DENMARK: HARTMANN TO TARGET NEW MARKET

Brdr Hartmann, the Danish packaging producer, is to start targeting a new market, the food industry, by producing moulded board with barrier added. In this field, the company will compete with real giants on the packaging market. MD Asger Domino believes this is possible, and refers to the company's success on the industrial market for moulded board packaging.
