DENMARK: MERGER TO BE INVESTIGATED BY THE EU

Article Abstract:

The merger between the Danish dairy company MD Foods and Swedish Arla will be investigated by the European Commission, the paper concludes, since Pia Gjellerup, the Danish Minister of Trade and Industries, says Danish competition authorities are not prepared for handling the issue. However, the Minister states that the companies have not yet finished their preparations, so the merger is not yet a case for any authorities.

SWEDEN: COMPETITION BOARD TO INVESTIGATE MERGER

Article Abstract:

Konkurrensverket, the Swedish Competition Authority, will further investigate the merger between the Swedish dairy company Arla and Danish MD Foods before it comes into force on 17 April. A possible outcome it that Konkurrensverket decides to forward the case to the European Commission for approval.
