DENMARK: SONOFON LOSES MARKET SHARE

Article Abstract:

The latest statistics by the Danish Telecoms Authority show that Sonofon, the Danish mobile telephony company, lost market share in 2000 whereas TDC's mobile telephony company VIC's market share remained practically unchanged. VIC's market share, measured in traffic minutes, dropped from 45% to 44% from the first half of 2000 to the second half whereas Sonofon reported a drop from 34% to 32%. The market share for Mobilix, Telia and Debitel remained at 12%, 5% and 5% respectively and the new mobile telephony companies in Denmark had a joint market share of 2%. The number of SMS messages climbed to 753 million.

DENMARK: SONOFON HAS LOST MARKET SHARE

Article Abstract:

Sonofon has lost market share on the Danish mobile telephony market. By the end of 1999, the company had a 27-32% market share, down from 36% by the end of 1998. Tele Danmark is still the largest player on the market with a 45-50% market share. Mobilix has expanded considerably through aggressive marketing efforts, and has now a 10-15% market share. Debitel and Telia have about 5% each.

DENMARK: SONOFON POSSIBLY TO BE ACQUIRED BY KPN

Article Abstract:

The latest rumors about the Danish mobile telephony operator Sonofon is that the Dutch company KPN is a possible buyer. Vodafone is also said to be interested. The speculations are due to the fact that the American company Bell South is to sell off its 45.6% stake.
