UK: CARLSBERG POSSIBLY TO BUY BASS' BREWERIES

Article Abstract:

Bass is to investigate the possibilities of selling off its brewing activities. Analyst Alexandra Oldroyd, Morgan Stanley Dean Witter, believes Carlsberg is interested in acquiring Bass, not least at Carlsberg's operations in the UK are characterized by a weak trademark and shortcomings in distribution. The company would also be able to finance the acquisition, as non-core activities such as Tivoli and Royal Scandinavia are to be sold off. Information manager Marianne Skov, Carlsberg, says the company is following the development of the market, but doesn't wish to agree about the interest in Bass.
