DVD player-makers aim to divide the world, but techies thwart plan
Article Abstract:
Asian retailers have thwarted the anti-piracy efforts of digital video disk (DVD) player manufacturers and Hollywood studios. Manufacturers and studios has divided the world into six regions with studios encoding films on DVD differently and manufacturers making different DVD models for reach region. This prevented a DVD from one region to be played in a DVD player from another area to discourage piracy. However, Asians retailers have undermined these efforts by simply removing the code readers from players before selling these to customers.
