Denmark:Carlsberg may lag behind due to brewing mergers

Article Abstract:

Carlsberg's major European rivals could outstrip the brewer in the midst of merger plans as Carlsberg is not yet ready to go ahead with new merger projects. Consolidation and streamlining following the merger with Orkla's Pripps-Ringnes breweries is keeping Carlsberg busy and prevents it from participating in the process. According to brewing analyst Jakob Bundgaard of Jyske Bank, the situation is a difficult one for Carlsberg as it risks being left out of developments during the interim period. He says "a merger between for example Interbrew and SAB would not put pressure on Carlsberg on its domestic markets but the bigger the difference between Carlsberg and the biggest brewers smaller its scope of action".
