EC directorates fight turf battle over information highway
Article Abstract:
Two European Commission directorates are involved in a dispute which could affect progress on laws to regulate the information superhighway. The culture and audiovisual department and the internal market directorate both argue that they should control the information superhighway. There are concerns that more restrictions would be likely if the cultural directorate were to gain control. The internal market directorate is more concerned about economic aspects of the information superhighway than cultural aspects.
