Microsoft Corp. has been fined C280.5 million ($358.3 million) by the European Union, for antitrust violations. This is the first such penalty imposed on a company for defying European Union anticompetitive business practice orders. Microsoft plans to appeal.

EU sees salvation in litigation

European Union regulators are encouraging corporations to bring antitrust grievances to the European Court. Since 1962 there have been only 60 antitrust tort cases in European Union member states.
