Each material choice was justified for sustainability

Article Abstract:

One of the first buildings allegedly built to the new Part L standards has started on site in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, and located on the old Warner Bros cinema car park site, alongside the motorway, the new law, business and design schools for Northumbria University are designed by Atkins in Leeds. The outer facades of the buildings have double-glazed, aluminum-framed curtain walling, while the third and fourth floors have mesh to the east and west elevations.

Raising the roof

Article Abstract:

A report on the Green Roofs for Architects' conference held on July 2005 to encourage the grassroot movement is presented. It was primarily aimed at saving the planet from human intervention and to nurture the 'plant community'.
