Emphasis on shorter-dated debt reflects uncertainty over colony's rating in '97

Article Abstract:

Many bond market analysts expressed concern over Hong Kong's investment rating after it integrates with China. Most Hong Kong businesses propose the establishment of two separate ratings for the colony and China. However, ratings companies are at odds on how to deal with the problem. Standard and Poor's Corp. intends to continue giving separate ratings while Moody's Investors Service has begun giving an integrated rating for Hong Kong. In light of such a problem, bond investors are encouraged to invest only on short-dated Hong Kong bonds.

Serm Suk sparkles as good investment, fans say, but will stock flatten out?

Article Abstract:

Serm Suk Company Ltd. was the only company to register gains at the Thai stock exchange in Oct. 1996. The company's stocks rose from 232 baht to 520 baht despite a 46% decline in the stock exchange's benchmark index. Analysts attributed Serm Suk's surge to strong profits during the latter part of 1996. Thai analysts are divided over whether Serm Suk can sustain its stock price gains until the end of 1996.

Many analysts are urging investors to buy into Nan Ya Plastics, saying that it is a very good bargain at its current share price.
