Esperion scientists start human tests of heart drug

Article Abstract:

Esperion Therapeutics Inc. is developing ApoA-I Milano, a genetically engineered version of a protein that mimics the effects of a genetic anomaly found in a small group of Italians 25 years ago. The Italians had a genetic variation that seemed to protect them from heart disease. The drug would boost levels and improve function of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol. The drug is now being tested on people for the first time.
