Article Abstract:
CEO Akers is being forced to step down by an angry board of directors, shortly after insisting he would not do so. IBM's massive losses in 1992, totaling $4.97 billion, was the catalyst that ended Akers' reign. More than 25,000 jobs are expected to be cut this year.
