Eye on the environment: Andrew Cross, director of the Landscape Foundation, intends to give it a new sense of purpose and urgency

Article Abstract:

Andrew Cross is director of the Landscape Foundation and wants to see its 'visibility' increased. He is keen to look at the physical form of landscape, with a focus on engagement with it in the form of settlement, production, consumption and communication. Cross aims to relate conference themes directly to venues, and the March conference on communication is to be held at Stansted Airport. Cross spent some 15 years in the visual arts but later became interest in the wider, environmental context of art.

Vertigo: The Strange New World of the Contemporary City

Article Abstract:

Vertigo is one of Glasgow 1999's major exhibitions, featuring 10 large scale projects from Europe, Asia and America, ranging from Banskside Tate via Chek Lap Kok airport, to the Ontario Mills shopping centre in California. The presentation of the individual projects varies considerably. Bankside Tate features a series of construction photographs by Christine Sullivan. The treatment of Berlin, attempting to incorporate the Reichstag, Jewish Museum and Potsdamer Platz, appears insubstantial.
