French connection fashions top spot for Morgan Stanley

Article Abstract:

Morgan Stanley was the leading financial adviser on European merger and acquisition deals in the period Jan 1997 to Dec 1997 in terms of value of transactions. It was involved in 67 deals worth a total of 34.2 billion pounds sterling. Second place was taken by The Lazard Houses, involved in 85 deals worth a total of 33.1 billion pounds sterling. French banks Paribas and Banque Nationale de Paris both performed strongly, reflecting France's position as the driving force behind European merger and acquisition activity in 1997.

Swiss role halts US avalanche

Article Abstract:

UBS and SBC Warburg Dillon Read made very strong progress in the Acquisitions Monthly league table of European merger and acquisition deals in 1997. UBS moved from 14th place to seventh place, having been involved in 33 deals worth 8.3 billion pounds sterling. It believes that its success is attributable to a substantial volume of medium-sized deals. SBC Warburg Dillon Read was involved in 37 deals worth a total of 13.9 billion pounds sterling.
