Women aged between 25 and 55 and from the ABC1 and C2 categories are the core readership. Among the leading publishers in the market are IPC Magazines, National Magazine Co., and Conde Nast. The most popular home interest magazine is Ideal Home with a circulation of 254,427, followed by House Beautiful and Homes & Antiques. The home interest magazines market is set to rise from 85.6 million pounds sterling in 2000 to 106.3 million pounds sterling in 2003.

The men's general interest magazine market in the UK has expanded enormously between 1992 and 1996, particularly in the last two years of that period. The market was valued at 44 million pounds sterling in 1996, which represents an increase of 548% from 1992, and 88% from 1995. A further 299% growth by the year 2000 is forecast. The magazines are published both by the leading publishing houses and by smaller companies. They usually cost between 2.50 and 2.70 pounds sterling, and 'FHM' and 'Loaded' are the biggest sellers.

UK consumers spent 1.8 billion pounds sterling on magazines in 1998, compared with 2.5 billion pounds sterling on newspapers and 1.9 billion pounds sterling on books. Gardening, home interest and women's interest magazines account for 30% of the market combined by value. Copy sales account for the bulk of revenues of consumer magazines, with advertising typically accounting for 28% of revenues. Consumer spending on magazines is expected to increase 35% to 2.5 billion pounds sterling in 2003.
