An internal note of the Ministry of Civilian Aviation of the Government of India has revealed that the Indian Airlines has performed well during the last 6 years, despite intense competition from the private airlines. The Ministry had prepared the note to assess the impact of the proposed foray of Tata Airlines on the Indian Airlines and Alliance Air. A-I's LOSSES THIS FISCAL MAY BE Rs340 CR, SAYS REPORT

Article Abstract:

A report on Air-India by the Disinvestment Commission says that it may show losses of Rs340 crore in 1998-99. It says that the airline has not been able to utilize 68 percent of its landing rights in terms of seats in Europe and 39 percent in the US. Its share in international traffic in and out of the country has declined from 50 percent about 30 years ago to about 22 percent at present. (khr)
