ITALY: BLUTEL'S TARGETS

Article Abstract:

Naples-based Blutel, which will operate Italy's fourth mobile phone network from February 2000, aims to gain 7mn clients by year 2008. In the next three years the joint venture of British Telecom, Autostrade Italiana, Benetton and Mediaset is to invest L 6,000bn in the network. By the end of year 2000 Blutel aims to reach 66% of Italy's population. For 2000 the company expects a turnover of L 158bn and losses of L 552bn. Blutel aims to reach break even in 2005.

AUSTRIA: MOBILKOM TO GIVE UP PAGING

Article Abstract:

Airpage Paging will be the only operator of a paging service in Austria, after Mobilkom discontinues the service at the end of year 2000. Mobilkom's paging service is being used by about 40,000 clients, compared with 100,000 in 1998. Mobilkom says that no spare parts are available for the outdated technology.
