Kaufman Footwear is expanding its Sorel line of winter boots to include rugged outdoor and fashionable types of footwear to make the brand less dependent on the winter season. Another goal in repositioning the brand is to target a younger demographic. The Kitchener, Ontario-based company has also awarded a $10-million advertising contract to Minneapolis, MN-based Martin-Williams Inc to build the new Sorel image in the US.

Tom Brooke, president of the Canadian Sportfishing Industry Association, is stepping up efforts to increase awareness through the National Fishing Week, which is scheduled for July.
