KPCL TO ADD 7TH UNIT TO RTPS

Article Abstract:

Karnataka Power Corporation Ltd (KPCL) will be adding an additional 210 mega watts (mw) plant to the Raichur Thermal Power Station (RTPS). The proposed unit will be the seventh unit of RTPS and will be completed by the year 2000. KPCL plans to raise RTPS' capacity to 1,470 mw from 840 mw currently. It proposes to mobilise Rs160 crore from the public during 1998-99 (Rs378 crore in 1997-98). The money raised will be used to fund the setting up of a 500 mw plant at Hospet and a 200 mw multi-fuel plant at Bidadi near Bangalore. (ag)

JAMNAGAR UNIT LIKELY TO START AT HIGHER CAPACITY

Article Abstract:

Reliance Petroleum Ltd (RPL) has decided to commence production at its Jamnagar refinery with a capacity of 27 million tonnes per annum (tpa) against the earlier projected capacity of 15 million tpa. With this, the capital cost works out cheaper at Rs5,278 per tonne as compared to the earlier capital cost at Rs6,238 per tonne. The refinery at Jamnagar is being set up at a cost of Rs14,250 crore. RPL has already invested Rs11,000 crore in the project. (gs)(vr)

RTPS ACHIEVES 100% PLANT LOAD FACTOR

Article Abstract:

The Raichur Thermal Power Station (RTPS) has generated 20.023 units of power on December 19, 1998 with a record 100 percent plant load factor (PLF). Indian thermal power stations have an average PLF of 64 percent. RTPS has an installed capacity of 840 mw. It had generated 19.82 million units of power in November 23, 1998. The power generation for 1998-99 has been pegged at 6,000 million units. (gs)(vr)
