Koflach vor dem Aus: K ndigungswelle fix

Article Abstract:

Finnish Amer group, which took over Austrian Atomic group after its collapse, seems to be determined to give up the Atomic subsidiary Koflach, which produces shoes and inline skates (brand: Oxygen). Koflach already carried out 90% of its orders for mountaineering, hiking and skiing shoes, and hard-shell inline skates as produced by Koflach are increasingly loosing ground to soft-shell skates from Asia. Thus it is expected that Koflach will have no more orders from spring 1999 at the latest. According to insiders, 130 of the 200 workers are to be informed about their planned dismissal in the coming days, after 100 workers were made redundant in 1997. It is expected that the operations of Koflach will gradually be phased out, since an immediate closure would cost several hundred million Sch. Neither Amer nor Atomic were available for comments on the rumours. A final decision has been promised for early July 1998.

Article Abstract:

The Austrian Post and the post office savings bank sterreichische Postsparkasse (P.S.K.) have set up a joint venture called Omnitec Systemservice to modernise the computer systems of the country's 2,300 post offices. Under a 15-year exclusive marketing agreement, the Post and P.S.K. are to make investments of Sch 2bn in the modernisation of post offices. 416 of the post offices are to be converted by the end of 1998, with the biggest 100 branches becoming financial service centres. In the long term, the number of such advice centres is to be raised to 400. Also a part of postmen are to be trained to sell financial products. P.S.K. director Karl Stoss estimates that without the exclusive marketing agreement with the Post, the bank would lose Sch 1bn in profit on ordinary activities in five years.
