Modern movement classic on a Highgate hilltop: Berthold Lubetkin's seminal penthouse on top of Highpoint II has been rescued from dereliction
Article Abstract:
Berthold Lubetkin's penthouse flat at Highpoint II in Highgate has been partially restored by Michael Lamb Building Design with advice from John allan of Avanti Architects. Missing spruce panelling in the hall was originally from Norway, and a British substitute was identified to replace it. All window frames had to be removed and blast-cleaned and the shade of blue on the vaulted ceiling was copied from paint scrapings taken from the original. The new cherrywood kitchen retains the layout of the old kitchen.
