New duty for architects

Article Abstract:

A court decision in Feb 1992 clarifies the situation of architects responsibility for advising clients on planning agreements. The judgement in the case of Moxley Jenner and Partners v Luffingham stipulated the architect was responsible for losses caused by the signing of a restrictive planning agreement. The architect should tell clients to take legal advice on such matters. Until this ruling, the position of architects in such cases was unclear.

Managing briefing and design: the role of the project manager must be fully and properly understood by architects if they are not to be marginalised in the building process

Article Abstract:

The need for project management has grown with the trend towards larger, faster and more complicated projects together with raised client expectations and the demand for better systems of accountability. The role of the project manager is defined by RIBA as a construction professional able to have the authority and responsibilty to help a client identify project objectives and supply technical expertise.

Does the heavy hand of the ARB give 'architects' a bad name?

Article Abstract:

In order to raise competency, skills and talent among architect academicians by exposing them to professional architectural environment is emphasized. The role of ARB, a regulatory consumer body that standardizes and homogenize architectural and construction projects, in hampering of architecture profession through its criticism is discussed.
