Article Abstract:
A trial is being held in Belgium and defendents include the former North Atlantic Treaty Organization secretary general, Willy Claes. The charges related to two major defense contracts which the government awarded in the late 1980s. The defendants allegedly allowed bribes to be paid so that Agusta and Dassault should be awarded the contracts. The two Belgian Socialist parties appear to have received most of the money, though private individuals may have received some of it.
