Pet food in Germany

Article Abstract:

Retail sales of pet foods in Germany are estimated at around 3.9 billion deutschemarks, and pet food production is around 1.1 million tons a year. Wet foods represent around 80% of cat food and 45% of dog food, and market growth has been sustained by the rise in the numbers of pets and increased demand for specialist products. The three main suppliers are Effem, owned by Mars, Nestle and Vitacraft. Grocery stores have about 70% of the pet food market.
