Avon Canada Inc. has ventured into the publishing field with the launching of its new 100-page Confidante glossy women's magazine. The new Confidante magazine, which is specifically published, designed and written for Avon Canada, is a well-produced biannual publication that is priced at C$2.99 per copy. It is sold through the 60,000 sales representatives of Avon Canada and has a 200,000-copy circulation. The new Confidante publication is seen as an effort on the part of Avon Canada to directly reach its clients and to win new clients.

Weird times in kids' TV

Article Abstract:

YTV, the first national network for children in Canada, hopes to become the No. 1 network among Canadian children via its new "Keep It Weird" slogan. Weird is defined by YTV as startling, unexpected, surprising, fun and cool. The network, which offers 57 new programs, 22 of them Canadian, concentrates on a C$3-million ad campaign, brand extensions and strategic alliances. Aside from keeping viewers in the six to 11 age bracket, YTV also hopes to corner the two-to-five-year-old audience by offering a new day program called "YTV Jr."

Bell staggers its High Speed launch

Article Abstract:

Bell Canada has introduced high-speed Internet service in four cities in Quebec and Ontario but has decided to stagger the launching of its ad campaign until the expected demand can be met. The service, called the Sympatico High Speed Edition, has been affected by the month-long strike by Bell employees that was resolved only on May 15, 1999. Bell's service is touted to be 30 times faster than conventional dial-up Internet access.
