Product review

Article Abstract:

Architectural cladding comprises pre-fabricated materials used in a non-loadbearing capacity to form the external walls of a building. The technique has become increasingly popular during the second half of the 20th century, partly as a response to environmental concerns and increased building refurbishment activity. The range of materials which can be used is wide. Options include concrete cladding and glazed curtain walling. Curtain walling specialists include Reynaers and Senior Aluminium Systems. Manufacturers of composite panel-walling systems include British Steel Strip Products and Eternit.

Product review

Article Abstract:

Recent developments in flooring materials have served to blur the traditional differences between timber, steel and concrete. Extensive investment has been made in research and development work associated with concrete floor systems, and precast concrete suspended ground floors are now found in around 55% of all new housing schemes in the UK. In contrast, timber floors have received very little attention. Flooring can be a very sensitive issue for construction companies, and accounts for an estimated 50% of failures taking place within two years of installation.

Product review

Article Abstract:

Interiors need to be pleasant and comfortable but are often subject to the dictates of fashion. The specification of office furniture is becoming more complex, as ergonomics, durability and compliance with health and safety regulations have to be considered. There is also growing concern about materials used from an environmental viewpoint, and the quest to reduce energy consumption continues. Building management systems have been developed to help provide naturally ventilated spaces, maximizing daylight.
