Saturday Night goes weekly in Post
Article Abstract:
Southam Inc will transform its Saturday Night magazine into a weekly combination, specifically as the weekend color magazine of the National Post newspaper, starting in May 2000. The magazine will also be resized, focus more on lifestyle content, and offer reduced ad rates, with a view towards attracting fashion and cosmetics advertisers, according to David Swail, executive vice-president and COO of the National Post's magazine operations. Swail adds that Saturday Night will have a minimum circulation of 375,000 via home delivery and on newsstands.

SN's weekly plans face skepticism
Article Abstract:
Canadian publisher Southam Inc plans to re-launch its 'Saturday Night' magazine as a weekend color supplement of the 'National Post' in May 2000. However, industry executives are skeptical of the strategy, noting that a considerable amount of advertising is required to sustain the magazine and Southam's challenge will be to generate revenues in a difficult magazine market. An industry executive noted that Southam's biggest risk is in siphoning off ads from the National Post itself.
