Seeing is believing
Article Abstract:
Extrasolar planets are difficult to locate, since the planets are not visible, and their presence is inferred from the impact they have on the spectrum of the star. Tennessee State University astronomer, Greg Henry, has monitored 75 stars in terms of their brightness, and he checked the brightness of a star on Nov 7 1999, finding that it was reduced at a time when a planet was forecast to pass in front of it. The planet appears to be a gas giant. larger than Jupiter by 1.6 times. The discovery acks theories about extrasolar planets.

All possible worlds: over the past year astronomers have at last been finding planets in orbit around other stars. Sadly for lonely earthlings, those detected so far do not look likely to harbour life
Article Abstract:
The recent discovery of the first planet orbiting a sun-like star, by Michel Mayor and Didier Queloz, has caused Frank Drake to modify his famous equation on the likeliness of life elsewhere in the universe. Other planets discovered, detection methods, and Drake's formula are discussed.

Lost world: pulsars and planets
Article Abstract:
A recent purported discovery of a planet orbiting a supernova remnant made by astronomers at Jodrell Bank has been disavowed. But astrophysicists have identified two other potential planets orbiting other pulsars.
