Showroom with a difference mixes fund and function

Article Abstract:

Austrian office furniture manufacturer Bene's new London showroom was designed by Apicella Associates. The showroom need to be architecturally distinctive and elegant. The glazed entrance looks into the showroom and materials were chosen to reflect the type of furniture, such as beech, aluminium and glass. There are cellular offices situated behind a scrolled reception partition and there is an exhibition recess at the rear of the shop.

Thoughtful link between two Gothic buildings: Nugent Vallis Brierley has improved the connection between Bristol Grammar School's Great Hall and Lord Winterstoke wing

Article Abstract:

Nugent Vallis Brierley, an architect, has designed a link building between the Great Hall of Bristol Grammar School and the Lord Winterstoke Wing, replacing a former 1950s rendered lean to structure. The outer shell was demolished and a steel frame structure was installed around the inner stone core. Existing materials or materials salvaged from elsewhere in the school grounds represented 75% of the structure's construction materials.

Decaying 1930s landmark revived as luxury offices

Article Abstract:

Extensive refurbishment and conversion work has been undertaken by Michael Hyde and Associates (MHA) and Sir Robert McAlpine on the Express Building in Manchester, England. This 1930s building was used by the Express newspaper until the late 1980s, and had then fallen into disrepair. The building was completely stripped out internally, and the scheme cost a total of around 6.3 million pounds sterling.
