Space for giving

Article Abstract:

Nicholas Hare Architects has designed a new office building for the Charities Aid Foundation in West Malling, England. The building had to offer a pleasant and efficient working environment, as well as reflecting the organisation's position as a leading charitable finance concern. However, the design had to be undertaken to a very strict budget. Features include an external court, which offers a reference point for orientation from inside, and a series of shallow-plan office spaces, ensuring that all occupants have an outside view.

Out of town offices on the crest of a wave

Article Abstract:

Skidmore, Owings and Merrill was responsible for the design of the 45,000 sq mt HQ building which Sun Life Assurance now occupies in Bristol, England. This features a building-height internal street which acts as the main circulation route. It is a structurally complex building, but brings together many simple ideas. The building is flexible, and will be able to respond to new developments in Sun Life's ways of operating. Construction features include a translucent, undulating roof over the central street.

The choice of a new generation

Article Abstract:

Bennetts Associates designed electricity generator PowerGen's new headquarters near Coventry, England. The building at Westwood is naturally ventilated. The office accommodates roughly 600 employees. The building has three floors each with four floorplates. The floorplaces have six structural bays each, with circulation along one side.
