Survey shows a decline in prices in most Asian cities

Article Abstract:

Prices for real estate properties such as office space and residential apartments in Hong Kong increased during the first quarter of 1997, defying general trends in Asian cities. Declines in rents and prices for offices and apartments have characterized Asian cities such as Beijing and Shanghai, while prices in Japan are expected to recover after bottoming out. Hong Kong remains the region's most expensive city in terms of property prices. Prime office spaces average US$19,000 per square meter while luxury apartments cost some US$14,000 per square meter.
