Article Abstract:

Megawati Sukarnoputri and her Indonesian Democratic Party (PDI) harshly attacked military and government leaders in June 1996 for endorsing a splinter group's national congress. Megawati, who could be a credible challenger to President Suharto's decades-long government, also wants a more independent position for the PDI.
