Principles for a peace settlement in ex-Yugoslavia were laid down during an international conference in London, England. However, violence in Bosnia-Herzegovina continues unabated and the United Nations continues to face difficulty in providing emergency aid.

The civil war in the former Yugoslavian republics will spread if the United Nations (UN) does not intervene. The UN could establish a force in Macedonia, but sending troops to secure the area around Sarajevo will probably also be necessary.
