Article Abstract:

The Pakistani supreme court overturned Pres Ishaq's dismissal of Prime Minister Sharif on May 26, 1993, declaring the move to be unconstitutional. It is rare for the supreme court to defy the president, but Ishaq does not enjoy the support of the Army that his predecessors had.

Article Abstract:

Pakistani prime minister Nawaz Sharif and Pres Ishaq Khan are engaged in a struggle for control of Pakistan's central government. Sharif hopes to curtail the president's power through constitutional reform, but the military backs the present constitution.
