U.K. case may influence music royalties

Article Abstract:

A debate over royalties paid to songwriters and composers per downloaded song is being taken to the United Kingdom Copyright Tribunal. The moneys due decision will only apply to the United Kingdom, however the case may be a consideration in similar cases in the United States and Germany.

Reuters reports '05 revenue rise, first in 4 years

Reuters Group PLC of the United Kingdom posted soaring net income, up 25 percent to 456 million Pounds in 2005 from 364 million Pounds in 2004. The news agency faces tough competition, not ideal market conditions and cost cuts. The revenue gain is the first in four years.

Songwriters, record firms agree on U.K. royalty for downloads

Article Abstract:

British songwriters have agreed to a rate of 8% of revenue for the next three years, in an agreement with record companies over music downloading. Revenue from online music sales is rising rapidly, comprising 6% of all record sales in 2005.
