Riding better IBM performance, Gerstner gets big increase in pay

Article Abstract:

Louis V. Gerstner Jr., the chief executive officer of International Business Machines Corp.(IBM), received a salary and bonus totaling $9,375,000 for the 1998 year. This translated into a 56% rise from 1997. The increase in Mr. Gerstner's salary and bonus came amidst IBM's rising share value and its comprehensive performance turnaround. IBM also estimated that it spent $575 million between 1997 and 1999 to deal with Year 2000 computer problems.
