Vivendi, Pathe to merge, exchange stake in BSkyB
Article Abstract:
France's Vivendi SA and Pathe SA have announced a merger agreement. The deal will allow Vivendi to control Pathe's 20% stake in French pay television company Canal Satellite as well as its 17.5% stake in British Sky Broadcasting Group PLC. Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. also has a 40% stake in BSkyB.

Global Crossing Ltd. has received an acquisition bid by XO Communications Inc. and Carl Icahn, the latter's chairman. The bid is valued at approximately $700 milllion.
