When virtue pays a premium
Article Abstract:
There has been increased interest in renewable energy from companies, and they are supported by governments, while renewable energy prices are falling. Renewable energy accounted for only 6.1% of the energy supply of the rich world in 1995, and this fell to 3.7% if large-scale hydro is ignored. There is increased demand for solar power in Mexico, South Africa, and Kenya, and there are proposals for solar power projects in remote rural parts of Canada. Deregulation and green pricing schemes could also boost demand for renewable energy.
