The Dec 13, 2001, attack on the Indian parliament has heightened tensions between India and Pakistan. It is unclear whether India will be content to take diplomatic action, or how much pressure Pakistan's Pres Pervez Musharraf will be able to take.

India seems to be taking a much tougher approach to Pakistan over the "Line of Control" in the dispute state of Jammu and Kashmir. The new policy is based on taking firmer "punitive action" locally in response to Pakistani gunfire.
