Wim Kok, the Netherlands' modest achiever
Article Abstract:
Dutch prime minister, Wim Kok, has been successful though he is modest about this. Dutch unemployment has dropped to 2.7%, inflation is 2.2% and economic growth is 3.4% average. Globalization is not a problems for the Dutch, as a small trading nation, argues Kok. The labor market has both flexibility and offers protection for workers. There is an ability to compromise in the Dutch political system, where coalition governments change frequently. Kok is popular, despite criticisms, and looks set to be re-elected in 2002.
