Article Abstract:

The international retail market for wine in five European countries was examined. The five countries are France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the UK. The data used for the study covered the years 1994-1998. The results showed that in general, alcohol consumption was adversely affected by legislation on drink-driving, competition from soft drinks and health concerns. In the UK, the industry has exhibited strong growth and volume because of greater consumer confidence while consumption has stabilized for France and Germany which are considered mature markets.

Italian market for wine

Article Abstract:

A report on the wine market in Italy is presented where on-trade sales of wine increased in both volume and value terms during the review period on the one hand. Off-trade wine volume sales continued to decline over the review period on the other hand.
