More than 20,000 people attended a conference in Copenhagen, Denmark, on world development, but there was little agreement on a course of action. There were large rifts between the rich and poor nations about such issues as a tax on currency speculation and foreign aid.

Article Abstract:

The leaders of the G7 countries, most of whom are experiencing domestic political difficulties, began a new round of talks on tariffs and trade. It is uncertain whether the highly touted sweeping tariff cuts will actually occur. Many disagreements remain.
