Yes, there's life!

Article Abstract:

The Brussels stock exchange is discussing a possible merger with Paris and Amsterdam exchanges, while the London Stock Exchange is to demutualise, so will be able to carry out mergers. Clearing systems may undergo mergers, which would pelace investors, since settlement accounts for most of the costs. Meanwhile, the Deutsche Borse also plans a stock flotation.

Exchanging places

Article Abstract:

Traditional stock exchanges have been affected by financial integration at global level, and technological change. Nasdaq plans to enter European markets using market making and a central-limit order book system. Nasdaq-Europe may begin trading in late 2000. There has been criticism that what is needed in Erope is a central market rather than an additional market. Nasdaq's entry into Europe could stimulate an increase in consolidation and cooperation in European stock exchanges.
