A warehouse club for gas and power

Article Abstract:

DTE Edison America, a utility firm headquartered in Detroit, MI, intends to offer electricity and gas to consumers in the Pittsburgh, PA, region in wholesale prices. The firm, which is a sister organization of the utility company, Detroit Edison, plans to serve as a warehouse club offering power and energy instead of traditional consumer items. The company hopes to charge as less as $12 per month to each of its members for their electricity and gas consumption. The firm's services are expected to be made possible as soon as the deregulation of the state's electricity industry is completed by October 1998.

More confusion on electric competition

Article Abstract:

Allegheny Energy Solutions, amidst boom in the electric business industry, revealed that it will stop operating by the end of 1998. Letters mailed to Allegheny Energy customers this week advised that customers will have to choose a new supplier or switch back to their regular utility. According to Allegheny Energy spokeswoman Janice Lantz, the new rules incorporated in the permanent electric program which takes effect Jan. 1, 1999, prompted the electric utility, which offers some of the lowest prices in Pennsylvania's electricity market, to fold operations.
