Aegis upgrade's new mission

Lockheed Martin's modified Aegis weapons system will be used in the hips in the Sea of Japan as a part of a rudimentary ballistic-missile-defense system to maintain surveillance for missile attacks and send data to land-base interceptors in Alaska. The deployment of this system to detect and track short- and medium- range missiles is a boon for Lockheed Martin's Burlington County operation, which started in 1953 as part of RCA Corp. and employs 4,500.

Delaware factory for chips to grow

The suppliers of chips in Delaware are scrambling to win new businesses due to the increase in demand for smaller, faster and more powerful chips for cell phones and other electronic gadgets. CMP Technologies, a subsidiary of Rohm & Haas Co., is planning a $1.6 million expansion of its Newark factory to meet demand for a new generation of materials used in semiconductor manufacturing.
